Preview of CityBar: A New Rooftop Bar in Southwest
CityBar is the perfect bar for a date night or special occasion cocktail. The intimate rooftop has boastful views of the city. Not an afterthought, the simple food menu pairs well with the nice drinks you'll find here.
CityBar at Hyatt Place Opens a New Rooftop Bar
It's raining rooftop bars in DC! In March, the Top of the Yard opened in the Hampton Inn at Navy Yard. Last week, CityBar at the Hyatt Place Washington DC/National Mall unofficially opened and later this month, CityBar will have its official opening.
Yesterday, I got a sneak peek at the new bar offering light snacks, craft cocktails including beer cocktails, and wine.
I tried the Pisco Sour Picante ($13) featuring a spray decoration of the Washington, DC flag and habanero syrup, this beverage is delightful with a spicy kick.
The snacks all looked tasty but my mom loves ceviche (something we didn't have as often in the Midwest) so we opted for the "ceviche mixto". $16 is steep for an appetizer so we considered it a special treat to celebrate the start of summer. It was fresh and light, exactly what I crave on a humid summer day.
They are still waiting for the retractable awning to arrive to help with the sun. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the shade there. Once it really heats up, though, the awning will be very handy.
For a bar that's only been open about a week, CityBar is off to a great start and has great potential. Until they release a happy hour menu, I'll probably stick it in the special occasion category. It'd be a perfect place to grab a cocktail before dinner or to watch the sunset after a long day.
Rumor has it they will officially open in the weeks ahead but I don't think they're turning away non-hotel guests in the meantime.
Since the menus aren't online yet, I took some pics for you.
